Mission

The University of Illinois Foundation is a nonprofit corporation responsible for encouraging and administering private gifts made to further the University of Illinois' mission. Although the Foundation is a separate entity from the U of I, the Foundation’s sole reason for existence is to serve the University of Illinois System and its three universities in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield.

RESPONSIBILITIES

University of Illinois Foundation responsibilities include:

  • Receipting and acknowledging private gifts as part of our stewardship
  • Directing gifts to the area or project chosen by a donor
  • Making regular reports to donors
  • Allocating money according to the terms of a designated gift
  • Managing undesignated or unrestricted funds to provide the greatest benefit for the university
  • Acting as custodian for endowed funds
  • Serving in legal capacities for planned giving arrangements
