Necessary Steps Mentoring Program: Springfield

This program is a Living Learning Community at UIS that helps first-generation students meet the challenges and demands of college life. First-generation students have parents or guardians who have not graduated from a four-year college or institution. Each freshman in the program is paired with an experienced Necessary Steps student who acts as a mentor, friend, and confidant as the students becomes acquainted with life at UIS. The results of this approach have been dramatically successful. Your gifts to this program will help to make a liberating difference in students’ lives—and the lives of their families and communities.
