Michael J. Hogan Named 18th UI President

Michael J. Hogan, president of the University of Connecticut, has been named as the next president of the University of Illinois with campuses in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield.

University of Illinois Board of Trustees Chairman Christopher G. Kennedy will announce the appointment of the 18th president on May 12 in Chicago and Urbana. He will make a similar announcement on May 13 in Springfield.

A specialist in post-World War II diplomatic history and the Cold War, Hogan succeeds President Stanley O. Ikenberry. A Midwest native, Hogan brings to the University experience from a four-decade career in public higher education that has included progressively senior administrative appointments at The Ohio State University and the University of Iowa before joining UConn in 2007. He holds degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa.

His appointment will be confirmed by the Board of Trustees at their regularly scheduled meeting on May 20 on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus. He is expected to start his position on July 1.
