Illinois Innocence Project: Springfield

The Illinois Innocence Project (IIP) is dedicated to releasing innocent men and women imprisoned in Illinois for crimes they did not commit. The Project advocates on behalf of this silenced population by researching and investigating claims of innocence, and providing legal representation and other assistance to prove credible claims of actual innocence. Since 2003, IIP has played a significant role in the exoneration of 11 innocent people. Project staff also teach classes at the University and make presentations throughout the state to raise awareness of innocence issues. Staff also meet with representatives of local, state and national government to assist with legislation that improves the justice system. Your gift will support this work, important for all of us.

Improving Selection Systems for State and University Civil Service P Procedures Initiative: Urbana-Champaign

This initiative will enable student learning through the implementation and administration of civil service selection systems.

International Programs and Studies Area Studies Library Programs Support: Urbana-Champaign

Partnering with the University Library in collection development and expansion will help ensure our continued national leadership in area studies and will help leverage continued support through U.S. Department of Education.

The ability of the state to compete in the globalized economy will, to a large extent, depend upon a globally-educated population; support for this program ensures the direct and continued connection between the knowledge and resources of the University and the state’s talented high school students.

The University’s response in the classroom to rapidly changing world issues could be enhanced through non-departmental support for reconfiguring knowledge sets with an international focus and seeding new courses in disciplines across campus.

International Programs and Studies Study Abroad Scholarships: Urbana-Champaign

Increased scholarship funds would increase opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students, especially those from underrepresented groups, to study abroad; permit us to expand short-term programming that integrates study abroad into department curricula campus-wide; and meet the Chancellor's strategic goal of doubling study abroad participation by 2012.
