Three Governing Directors join Board, three move to Life status

Amita Schultes, Gozen Hartman, and Rakesh Varma were all voted to become UIF Foundation Board governing directors at the group’s fall meeting on November 14. 

Schultes holds two degrees from the University of Illinois Chicago, a bachelor’s in economics in 1996 and a master’s in economics in 2001. She later earned a master’s in financial markets and trading from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a PhD in Finance from Walden University. 

An investment planner and consultant whose career has focused on investment planning and consulting, Schultes lives and works in New York City, where she is currently a partner at Cerity Partners, an investment firm dedicated to assisting endowments, foundations, family offices, corporations, and sovereign wealth funds.

Hartman is a 2001 University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign graduate with a bachelor’s in civil and environmental engineering from the Grainger College of Engineering. She later earned a master’s degree at the University of Texas.

A native of Champaign‑Urbana, Hartman began her career in strategy consulting for the air and travel industry. She co‑founded and is the CEO of Fairlawn, a real estate investment, management, and development firm in Champaign and Chicago. 

Hartman lives in Champaign.

Varma graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago’s College of Business Administration in 1976 with a BS in accounting and later earned an MBA from UCLA. 

He held several corporate financial leadership positions during his career before retiring as CEO of ARV Capital Management in California, where he resides in Camarillo.

Alan Feldman (UIUC ’74, MBA ’76), Laura Fraley (UIUC ’77, M.S. ’79), and Kay Schwichtenberg (UIC MBA ‘84) all moved from Governing to Life Director status at the same meeting.
