The University of Illinois Foundation (UIF) is pleased to announce the election of Beth Georgia Gies to its Board of Directors. Gies was confirmed by a vote at the March 2023 meeting of the UIF Board of Directors. Her election brings the number of governing directors to a total of 24.

Marie Lynn Miranda named chancellor of the University of Illinois Chicago
Marie Lynn Miranda, the former provost of the University of Notre Dame and a leader in the drive to make higher education more inclusive, has been named chancellor of the University of Illinois Chicago and a vice president of the University of Illinois System.
Pending formal approval by the Board of Trustees at its Nov. 17 meeting, Miranda will take office on July 5, 2023, as the 10th chancellor of UIC. She will succeed Chancellor Michael Amiridis, who became President of the University of South Carolina in June.

University of Illinois Foundation Breaks Ground for New Headquarters
Urbana, Ill.—The University of Illinois Foundation gathered staff, colleagues, and friends on May 9, 2022 to break ground for a new building that will create an innovative and collaborative new space for philanthropy in support of the University of Illinois System and its three universities in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield. This ceremonial groundbreaking was held on the building site near the corner of St. Mary’s Road and Fourth Street in Champaign, Ill., just east of the I Hotel and Conference Center.
Janet L. Gooch named Chancellor of University of Illinois Springfield
Janet L. Gooch, the executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at Truman State University, an accomplished higher education leader and educator, has been named chancellor of the University of Illinois Springfield and vice president for the University of Illinois System, pending formal approval by the Board of Trustees at its May 19 meeting.
Gooch will take office on July 1 and succeed interim Chancellor Karen M. Whitney, who has served in that role since July 1, 2020. Whitney followed Chancellor Susan Koch, who retired in 2020.

University of Illinois alumnus and philanthropist Ron Filler (‘70 LAS) will be inducted into the Futures Industry Association Hall of Fame next month at the organization’s 2022 conference in Florida. The FIA Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the futures, options and centrally cleared derivatives markets.
